Tony Winning Play Scheduled for an Autism-Friendly Performance

(July 29, 2014) -- An autism-friendly performance of 'Into the Woods' a Tony Award winner in 1986 is set to take place on August 9th at 2 PM in The Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park, San Diego.

'Into the Woods' is a musical that features characters from "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Rapunzel" and "Cinderella." Adjustments will be made for the performance including fewer loud noises and less lighting effects. The Globe has also planned a pre-show called, "Meet Your Seat" on August 2nd at 10 AM to help autism families get used to the theatre before the actual performance. The Globe will follow this play with an autism-friendly performance of Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" on December 13th.

The Theatre Development Fund's Autism Theater Initative has helped start a campaign that has led to more autism-friendly performances across the country. You can read more about their program through a Q&A on our site here and at www.tdf.org.
