In Boston on Saturday, March 30 at the Sixth Annual Teamsters Local 25 “Light Up the Night” gala, Suzanne and Bob Wright were honored for their extraordinary efforts to educate the public about autism through Autism Speaks, the organization they founded in 2005.

The event raised more than $500,000 for the Teamsters Local 25 Autism Fund, including money raised through silent auction items and a raffle prize with four wheels – a 2013 Cadillac SRX. A significant percentage of the proceeds from the gala each year has been donated to Autism Speaks, making the Teamsters Local 25 the top local fundraiser for the New England Chapter of Autism Speaks.

Among the more than 800 guests at the Intercontinental Hotel were Massachusetts Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, Massachusetts congressman Joe Kennedy, former NBA player Chris Herren and 11-year-old Christopher Duffley, who is blind and has autism. Duffley brought the house down with his rendition of “Lean on Me,” leading the crowd in song. The Teamsters Local 25 have raised an more than $1.5 million for autism since 2007.
