(August 26, 2014) – On Saturday, September 6, Team Up! with Autism Speaks will host it’s 2nd Annual 4 Miles of Hope Race in Central Park in partnership with New York Road Runners (NYRR). The race will start at 8:00 am, followed by a Kids Race at 9:30 am for children ages 2 to 12 years old. The group of runners includes Autism Speaks regulars Jonathan Brunot and identical twins Alex and Jamie Schneider.
Jonathan is a 25-year-old on the autism spectrum who has been running for the past eight years, including completing the Boston Marathon six times and the New York City marathon five times. Jonathan was featured on our site earlier this year for completing the Boston Marathon again.
Twins Alex and Jamie Schneider are 24-year-old non-verbal young men with autism. They both began running at the age of 15 and since then have run in over 150 races, including the Boston and New York City marathons. Their stories have been featured by ABC’s Good Morning America, World News Tonight, The New York Times, among other articles and newspapers. Alex was featured on our site recently as he is currently in a contest to be featured on the front cover of Runners World, an international running magazine. Today is the last day you can vote for Alex here.
Event proceeds from this race will support Autism Speaks’ work, both locally and nationally, to increase awareness about autism, fund innovative autism research and family services, and advocate for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
