NEW YORK (April 19, 2014) -- New York's Theater at Madison Square Garden played host to a very special performance of "Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure." It's the latest autism-friendly offering from the Theatre Development Fund's Autism Theatre Initiative, which was launched in 2011 to make major theatre productions more accessible to individuals with autism and their families.
According to the TDF website, "The shows are performed in a friendly, supportive environment for an audience of families and friends with children or adults who are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other sensitivity issues. Slight adjustments to the production included reduction of any jarring sounds or strobe lights focused into the audience. In the theatre lobby there were quiet areas and an activity area, staffed with autism specialists, for those who needed to leave their seats during the performance."
