Students with Autism from Animation Studio Landing Gigs in Hollywood

December 02, 2013

Four students from Exceptional Minds, a non-profit vocational center and animation studio for young adults on the autism spectrum, will appear in the end credits of the upcoming Hollywood film "American Hustle" for their skilled post-production work. The film, due out Dec. 18, is directed by Academy Award-nominated David O. Russell and features a star-studded cast that includes Christian Bale, Amy Adams and his winning “Silver Linings Playbook” trifecta of Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence.

For “American Hustle,” these students, some of whom are unable to have conversations, did rotoscoping, a tedious animation technique necessary for color correction, and computer effects such as making superheroes fly by erasing the wires that hold them up.

The program was featured in Los Angeles Daily News yesterday.

In 2012, through the Family Services Community Grants progam, Autism Speaks provided $25,000 in funding to Exceptional Minds to support their training programs. Learn more here!
