Service Dog Helps Nonverbal Kids Communicate Through Flashcards

August 14, 2014

(August 14, 2014) -- The saying goes, “a dog is a man’s best friend”, but this dog is something special. Drake, a cute 1 year old golden retriever is going to be making a tremendous impact on children with autism. Drake was trained at Good Dog! Autism Companions, which is based in Fallbrook, CA. This is a nonprofit that specializes in training personal service dogs for children with autism and their families. These children will be able to communicate with Drake by writing down different commands on flashcards for Drake, such as “walk” or “sit.”  This will allow nonverbal children with Autism to have this fascinating opportunity to communicate with Drake. Drake will begin her service on Tuesday, August 18th at the Comprehensive Autism Center in Oceanside, CA, and hopes to make a significant impact on these children with autism.
