Washington DC (June 24, 2014) -- Autism Speaks and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association hosted the Washington D.C. premiere screening of “Sounding the Alarm,” a profound documentary by Blockburger Productions that examines the lives of 12 families affected by autism, and chronicles the challenges and opportunities they face from diagnosis to adulthood. Now that 1 in every 68 children in the U.S. is affected by autism, the need for comprehensive services and support across the lifespan is more crucial than ever.
MSNBC's Chris Matthews moderated the post-film discussion with panelists Bob and Suzanne Wright, Autism Speaks President Liz Feld, and “Sounding the Alarm" director John Block.
Others in attendance included Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.), John Ryan National Center for Missing & Exploited Children president and CEO John Ryan, George Washington Univ.'s Valerie Hu, along with Autism Speaks chapter board members Nora Fitzpatrick, Michele Carbonell, Glen Finland, Sean Hoffman, Steve Garchik and James Whalen.
The film recently screened at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, where it was announced that “Sounding the Alarm” will be available on Netflix, iTunes and Amazon Prime in July. Watch the trailer here.
