"FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks" Weekend Kicks Off in Dover

(May 30, 2014) Dover, Del.– Today kicked off the NASCAR race weekend at Dover International Speedway. The day started off with a press conference discussing Sunday's "FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks" NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The press conference featured Artie Kempner, Executive producer of NASCAR on Fox and Autism Speaks Board Member; Alec Elbert, Autism Speaks Chief Strategy and Development Officer; Denny Hamlin NASCAR driver of the #11 FedEx Toyota car; and Mark Rossi, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Dover Motorsports.

"What people don’t understand is that a lot of families are affected by autism, and a lot of the NASCAR family," said Hamlin on the awareness impact this race has had.

After the press conference a special moment happened when Artie introduced Joey Principie, a 17-year-old Delawaren with autism who will be grand marshal for race weekend.

Other highlights for today included the “Lucas Oil 200” NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race where several of the drivers sported an Autism Speaks puzzle piece on their cars.

Stay tuned for tomorrow where we will have the NASCAR Nationwide Series race which will immediately be followed by a track walk on the Monster Mile to benefit The NASCAR Foundation and Autism Speaks!
