Mom Becomes Autism Advocate After Son Voted Out of Class

Back in 2008, the story of a Florida student with Asperger syndrome who was voted out of class by his teacher and fellow students took the nation by storm. Many were outraged by the teacher's actions. Alex Barton, the student involved in the incident is now 11 years old and has moved on, he is in high school and enjoys videogames like many kids his age. His mom Melissa however, never forgot what happened to her son.  She become an advocate for individuals with autism. Melissa is now the director of her local Florida chapter of Autism Speaks.
