Florida Boy with Autism Cannot Keep Pet Chickens

A Florida family is facing a tough choice: give up three pet chickens they believe are helping their 3-year-old son with autism or move to a new city.

J.J. Hart's parents told the Orlando Sentintel that the 3-year-old is more talkative and calmer since they brought home 3 hens, which J.J. calls "ducks." Now, the City Council of DeBary, Fla., has said that  that chicken coops in residential backyards will no longer be legal as of December 31.

"We're really not sure what we're going to do now," said Joe Hart, J.J.'s father. "He was doing so well with the chickens, and now they're telling us that we can't have them anymore."
