Father Runs Marathon Blindfolded for Daughter who is Blind and has Autism

(May 5, 2014) -- Mike Bruno, volleyball coach at Point Park Universtiy in Pittsburgh, ran the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon on Sunday in honor of his 8-year-old daughter Cassie, who has autism and is blind. Mike, who ran the marathon last year as well, announced that he was running this yearduring an Autism Speaks benefit last November. Mike wanted to spread awareness in a special way for this event, which is how he arrived at the idea to run the marathon blindfolded.

Mike finished the marathon tethered to his guide Jim Irvin, Point Park's cross-country coach,  in 3:47:59. In addition to running to spread awareness, Mike raised money to support Autism Speaks.
