Darien, Conn., Superintendent Resigns After Special Ed Investigation

October 23, 2013

Darien, Conn., schools Superintendent Dr. Steven Falcone submitted his resignation on the heels of a state investigation that found the school district broke state and federal special education laws.

The investigation, prompted by complaints from 24 parents, found that the district changed specially-tailored education programs for some students without consent from their parents—a violation of the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Timothy Canty, assistant Superintendent of secondary schools, will serve as Acting Superintendent pending the appointment of an Interim Superintendent.
