New York (October 21, 2013) – Autism Speaks to Wall Street: 7th Annual Celebrity Chef Gala, a night of fine dining and entertainment, brought together the culinary talents of world-renowned chefs to help raise funds and awareness of autism. The event, hosted by NBC News Special Correspondent Meredith Vieira, raised more than a million dollars for Autism Speaks’ research and advocacy initiatives. Participating chefs included Tom Colicchio (Colicchio and Sons); Rocco DiSpirito; Graham Elliot (MasterChef); Masaharu Morimoto (MORIMOTO); Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto); Wylie Dufresne (WD-50); Franklin Becker (Top Chef Masters); Brian Voltaggio (Top Chef); Laurent Tourondel (Arlington Club); and many others.
This year's gala took place in the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District at Cipriani Wall Street. The evening kicked off with well-known chefs presenting hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail reception. Following cocktails, more than 90 of the world’s finest chefs – one chef per sponsor table – prepared and served four-course meals tableside exclusively for their guests. As dishes came out, attendees were treated to a special performance by Talina Toscano, a songwriter and vocalist with autism who is quickly making a name for herself on the national stage.
Autism Speaks Co-founders Suzanne and Bob Wright served as the evening’s honorary co-chairs and Franklin Becker, Susan and Philip Harris, Alison and Duncan Niederauer, and Suzanne and Shawn Rubin served as the event co-chairs. Proceeds from the gala will benefit Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization dedicated to increasing awareness of autism and raising money to fund autism research.
