San Diego Autism Activists Lauded
San Diego Walk for Autism Research founders Dave and Katrina DeRoche were honored on Sept. 20, 2006, with the 10News Leadership Award for their efforts to raise funds for NAAR/Autism Speaks. The DeRoches, parents of a young son with autism and co-chairs of the San Diego event since 2003, have energized parents and providers to work together to raise well over half a million dollars. find a cure for autism by raising the funds that will facilitate and quicken the pace of research, to raise public awareness of autism, and to give hope to all those who suffer from this disorder. NAAR, which merged with Autism Speaks this year to create the largest single organization devoted to autism in the nation, has funded several autism research projects in San Diego.
