New Message Boards Open Online Dialogue for Autism Community
Autism Speaks has launched extensive, new online forums, providing a new venue for members of the autism community to quickly and safely share information, resources and support on a wide range of topics. The forums are available to all www.autismspeaks.org visitors by clicking here.
It's easy for community members to join in the ongoing discussions. Any web site visitor can read the already extensive postings that began to accumulate just hours into the site launch. (The very first question was from a kindergarten teacher seeking new ideas to help engage a student with autism with other children in the class).
The forums make it easy to find discussions on topics of interest. There's an extensive search function that allows users to see if particular topics have been raised, or to find most active or most recently updated threads.
Forums have been opened in the following areas:
Autism in the News
Coping with Autism
Legislative/Legal Issues
Autism Resources
Autism Science
What Do You Think?
Registration is fast and simple and free, and registered users can easily post comments and reply to others, see at a glance which forums are most active, find the latest posts, and subscribe to particular threads to get regular updates.
It's also simple to connect to other members of the community using such functions as a members list, or lists of currently active users. Registered users can send email or private messages to other users, and create "buddy lists".
Kevin Berk is Autism Speaks' Director of Interactive Services. The message board application was developed by Adam Glenn and Jennifer Parsons. Ross Cooper and Jeremy Stanton at GoldNFish Marketing oversaw design and programming.
