"Team Autism Speaks" Runs NYC Marathon
Fifty-five Runners Complete Race, Raise over $190,000
On Sunday, November 4, 55 runners from 13 states and Canada competed in the ING NYC Marathon 2007 as part of “Team Autism Speaks,” raising over $190,000 for Autism Speaks. The entire group, which included two husband-and-wife teams and one brother-sister team, finished the race, with some runners beating their personal best times.

On Saturday night, the team held a pre-race pasta dinner at Tony Di Napoli's for the runners and their families. Autism Speaks president Mark Roithmayr joined the group to provide encouragement and to thank the runners. On Sunday, Team Autism Speaks arrived at the starting line in style in a chartered bus and was cheered along the route through all five boroughs by Autism Speaks supporters.

Autism Speaks was one of 22 charity partners selected to participate in the ING NYC Marathon 2007. This is the second year that the Marathon worked with local charities in addition to the event's two official charity partners and the first year that Autism Speaks applied and was selected for entry positions.

Among the runners were two Autism Speaks staff members Jena Greco, NYC/Northern N.J. walk manager, Matt Moline of the IT department in Los Angeles, as well as Evan Farmer, from TLC's “While You Were Out.”
