Golf Championship Raises Autism Funds
Football stars, celebrity golfers aid charity at high-profile event
The nationally-televised celebrity golf tournament The American Century Championship has raised $150,000 for Autism Speaks. Organizers of the event, which took place in Lake Tahoe July 15-17, had designated Autism Speaks as its charity beneficiary this year and again in 2006.

Football legend Dan Marino served as primary spokesperson for the campaign, which involved sports stars like tournament winner Billy Joe Tolliver, scores of celebrity golfers, tournament title sponsor American Century Investments, NBC Sports and the Lake Tahoe community.

Among the fundraising were proceeds of $26,000 from a silent auction and another $11,000 from a live auction, both matched by American Century, which has also made a $25,000 donation, along with a pledge to match donations made by American Century clients during the tournament.
