In honor of their leadership in their local communities, two Family Services Community Liaison (FSCL) volunteers were recognized at the year-end meeting. Kristin Hubbard from N.C., for “Keep Those Resources Coming,” identified the highest number of resources from her community, and Beth Sparr of Fla. for having gone “Above and Beyond,” when she founded the Autism Boot Camp, a weekend event which provides parents an opportunity to participate in workshops while their children with autism are engaged in child-friendly activities.
FSCL volunteers ensure that families affected by autism have information about existing resources in their local communities. Resources that are essential in achieving desired outcomes for individuals with autism are identified by the FSCL volunteers and quickly entered into Family Services Resource Guide, making them available to all families. The FSCL volunteers identify existing and new resources which allows families more flexibility and choices in navigating what can be an overwhelming system.
