Teletubbies Take Manhattan
The Teletubbies are celebrating their 10th anniversary with a "British invasion" of the United States. Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po—from the beloved BBC and PBS television series—are making appearances in New York City during the week of March 26 and will be raising awareness and funds for Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now.
This is the first time that the original Teletubbies actors have appeared in costume in public. The 10th anniversary festivities kicked off with a launch party at the Teletubbies pop-up shop on on Bleecker Street on March 27. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared March 28 Teletubbies Day in their honor. The pop-up shop, which will be open through April 7, is showcasing new Teletubbies licensed products with proceeds from sales benefiting Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now. In addition, an auction of one-of-a-kind Teletubbies items will be held with 100% of proceeds being donated to Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now.
