St. Louis Cardinals Host Autism Awareness Night at Busch Stadium
On April 27, 2008, the St. Louis Cardinals hosted the 3rd Annual Autism Awareness Night at Busch Stadium. Local volunteers and their children were recognized in a pre-game ceremony on the field, during which Cardinals pitcher Russ Springer presented a $5,000 check to Autism Speaks, on behalf of Cardinals Care. An Autism Speaks public service announcement was shown on the stadium's Jumbotron to further promote awareness. Lois Blackwell, the founder of Missouri's largest service provider for autism, Judevine Center for Autism, delivered a spectacular honorary first pitch. Volunteer leaders and community supporters watched the game from three donated corporate luxury boxes, in addition to filling several sections in the outfield.
