Boston Red Sox Host Autism Awareness Night at Fenway Park

On Wed., Sept. 12, the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park played host to Autism Speaks night. Larry Cancro, Senior Vice President of the Red Sox and New England Chapter Board Chair, joined a group of volunteers at a pre-game ceremony in which Red Sox Pitcher Tim Wakefield presented a $10,000 check to Autism Speaks' New England Chapter Executive Director Vin Goglia. Connor Farrell, a nine year old with PDD-NOS and a walk participant, was asked to officially start the game with “Play Ball".
During the game, facts about autism were displayed on the big screen at Fenway Park. The New England Sports Network, which broadcast the game live, played a public service announcement featuring Time Wakefield promoting the Greater Boston Walk Now for Autism. The Red Sox have supported the walk since its inception seven years ago and Tim Wakefield has been its spokesperson the last two years.
