Children's Program Wins Award for "Private Worlds" Special
A Nickelodeon TV special about children with autism won the Emmy for best children's program at the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Fox TV Sept. 16, 2007. The cable channel's long-running, award-winning Nick News with Linda Ellerbee aired the program “Private Worlds: Kids and Autism,” last April.
“Private Worlds” tells the story of a severely autistic fifth grader, as well of a 15-year-old with Aspergers Syndrome. The program also includes segments on author Temple Grandin and a 14-year-old musical

savant. Another segment focuses on how other children can connect with children with autism through a special hockey program.
“While kids with autism have been described as living in their own private worlds," Ellerbee said when the show was broadcast last spring, "they are also living in our world. Therein lies the challenge for all of us: How do we live differently together?"
