IACC Hears from Families and Individuals with Autism
Last week's Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) meeting began with a special panel moderated by Peter Bell of Autism Speaks. The panel included presentations by two individuals with autism as well as parents who shared their children's stories. An afternoon session focused on the progress of several IACC initiatives.

Autism Speaks Joins New York Autism Community in Calling for an End to Autism Insurance Discrimination
Autism Speaks joined members of the New York State autism community last Friday at a special joint committee hearing to call on the state legislature to pass autism insurance reform legislation. Autism Speaks' Lorri Unumb testified at the hearing, saying “There is an autism tsunami coming and it is going to cost the state an extraordinary amount of money in special education and adult care if the current generation of kids does not get the treatment they need.”
Autism Speaks-Funded University Course on Technology Encourages Careers in Autism
Autism Speaks' Innovative Technology for Autism (ITA) initiative sponsors university courses to introduce young designers to the complexities of autism, and now announces the 2010 installment at the University of Southern California. Six years of these popular courses have yielded exciting designs in the form of organizational devices, virtual reality-based learning games and data capture devices for therapists and teachers, and have ushered many students into the burgeoning field of Autism Technologies.

Inaugural Hope 4 Hanna Raises Over $60,000
On Sunday, October 25, more than 400 Southern Californians participated in the inaugural Hope for Hanna 5k/10K race and walk, raising over $60,000. The event, hosted by the parents of a five year old girl who has autism, also offered a resource fair for attendees.
