Last Walks of Summer Season Raise $340,000
Nearly 3,000 people capped off the summer by taking part in Walk Now for Autism Speaks events in Nantucket, Mass. and Lincoln, Neb., which raised $340,000. Study Provides Insights Into Autism and Epilepsy
A team of researchers from Harvard University have uncovered the function of a gene that plays a key role in human epilepsy disorder and offers clues into epilepsy in autism. In studies funded in part by Autism Speaks, the researchers found that the LGl1 gene functions to control the remodeling of nerve cell synapses that occurs during the critical period of brain growth following birth.
Autism Votes Shares Mid-Year Accomplishments
In 2009, seven states passed autism insurance reform legislation, bringing the nationwide total to 15. This mid-year review focuses on legislative successes and the status of federal health care reform.

Autism Speaks National Walk Sponsor Toys“R"Us has released the latest edition of its Toy Guide for Differently-Abled Kids. The complimentary annual guide features specially selected toys that promote the development of children with a wide range of disabilities, including autism.
Boston Red Sox Host Annual Autism Awareness Night
On August 24, the Boston Red Sox hosted an Autism Awareness Night at Fenway Park, continuing a nine-year tradition of supporting the Greater Boston Walk Now for Autism Speaks. The sold-out crowd was treated to a performance of the national anthem by a young man who has autism.
Baby Siblings Research Consortium Releases 2008 Report
Autism Speaks' Baby Siblings Research Consortium focuses its efforts on discovering the earliest signs and symptoms of autism. The group, made up of 23 researchers around the world, has now released its 2008 report, which includes information on its recent publications as well as updates on its many ongoing projects.
