Nantucket Walk Now for Autism Raises Over $316,000
|
|
|
Over 900 walkers participated in the second Nantucket Walk Now for Autism, which took place at Jetties Beach in Nantucket, Mass. on Saturday, August 16. Over $316,000 was raised by walkers on 45 teams, who joined Autism Speaks co-founders and Walk Chairs Suzanne and Bob Wright. Read more and view photos and video

Inaugural Athletes Against Autism Golf Tournament in Canada Raises Nearly $200,000
|

|
With over 20 athletes and celebrities in attendance including Athletes Against Autism (AAA) co-founders Olie Kolzig, Byron Dafoe and Scott Mellanby, the Inaugural AAA Golf Tournament in Kelowna, British Columbia raised nearly $200,000 in support of the research, awareness, and outreach programs of Autism Speaks Canada. D.C. Area Plays Host to Ride Now and Golf Events
|
|
|
Motorcyclists and golfers descended upon the D.C. area to raise money for Autism Speaks by participating in the 2nd Annual ING DIRECT Ride Now and D.C. Golf Classic events. More than 60 golfers raised over $128,000 on August 18 at the Lowes Island Club in Potomac Falls, Va. Read more and view photos from the D.C. Golf Classic

New Locations for CTN Study Announced
|
|
|
Autism Speaks' Clinical Trials Network announces new locations in Florida and New Jersey for its on-going trial, the Study of Fluoxetine in Autism (SOFIA). The study will include more than 100 children and adolescents with autistic disorder to evaluate the effectiveness of a "melt-in-the-mouth" preparation of fluoxetine, in reducing certain core symptoms of autistic disorder. "General Hospital: Night Shift" Will Promote Awareness Message
|
|
|
The SOAPnet primetime drama “General Hospital: Night Shift” is working with Autism Speaks to produce a storyline about autism. On the show, single father Jagger Cates (Antonio Sabato, Jr.) confronts the fact that his five-year-old son has autism. Together they begin a journey that will provide “General Hospital: Night Shift” viewers a sense of how families are affected by the disorder. Read more.

Nominate "Raise Autism Awareness in Underserved Populations" for the Top 25
|
|
"Raise Autism Awareness in Underserved Populations" is one of more than 1,000 project submissions in American Express' Members Project, which aims to unite American Express card members behind one cause. Autism Speaks is the "Fulfilling Organization" for this project, which proposes to increase autism awareness in underserved populations, using tailored materials (i.e. multi-lingual, culturally sensitive) to address the many barriers to services and diagnosis that families often face in rural or urban areas. American Express will donate up to $1.5 million to fund the winning project.

Train 4 Autism Teams Up With Autism Speaks
|
|
|
|
Train 4 Autism (T4A) is partnering with Autism Speaks to help raise awareness and funds through athletic events. T4A provides a system by which individuals can train for and participate in athletic events such as marathons, half marathons, 10-K's, 5-K's, walks, triathlons, swimming, and/ or cycling events and at the same time raise funds for the autism program of their choice.

Surfers Paddle Around NYC to Raise Funds, Awareness
|
|
|
|
|
Eighty surfers braved the water and wind to paddle around Manhattan in the second annual Surfers Environmental Alliance SEA Paddle NYC, a fundraiser for autism awareness.
