Autism Speaks Launches Autism Social Networking Site
|
|
|
Autism Speaks announced the launch of its new autism social networking site which will provide a new venue for members of the autism community to share insights, opinions and information. Members are able to create their own personalized profile, start a blog, join a number of new forums with a range of autism-related topics, and post photos and videos. They can also join a variety of user groups, such as groups for individuals with autism, parents, grandparents, educators and others.

New Online Resource Fosters Inclusive School Environments

|
Autism Speaks today launched an online School Community Tool Kit designed to help school administrators talk with their staff about how students with autism can best be supported and included in the school community – and recognized as important contributors – for the betterment of all. The kit provides information about inclusion of students with autism in the school community, strategies for intervention and information targeted to specific members of the school community, including administrators, teachers, bus drivers, school nurses, custodians, security and office staff.

Autism Speaks and Bank of America Expand Partnership

|
Autism Speaks and Bank of America announced an expanded partnership, in which Bank of America will make a donation to Autism Speaks for every personal checking account and credit card account that is opened. Autism Speaks will also receive a further donation for every Check Card and credit card transaction. To raise autism awareness, the customized Visa® Check Card, credit card and checks will all feature the Autism Speaks logo. Read more.

Innovative Technology Helps to Advance Research and Treatment of Autism
|

|
The goal of Autism Speaks' Innovative Technology for Autism (ITA) initiative is to facilitate the development of new technology to assist individuals with autism, clinicians and behavioral support staff, as well as the variety of researchers in the clinical, education and technology related fields. June proved to be a busy month for the ITA, starting with the publication of a journal article, penned by program Vice-Chair Matthew S. Goodwin, Ph.D., which highlights the many technologies emerging in this exciting field. Additionally, ITA committee members attended the Autism Speaks co-sponsored 7th International Conference on Interaction Design for Children (IDC). The goal of the conference, held June 11-13, was to better understand children's needs and how to design specifically for them and their developmental requirements. Hundreds Attend Walk Now for Autism Kick-off Events in N.Y. and N.J.

|
Nearly 700 guests attended kick-off events in Woodbury, N.Y. and in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. for the upcoming Long Island and New Jersey Shore Walk Now for Autism events, respectively. Bike to the Beach Raises $100,000 for Autism Speaks
|
|
|
On August 1, 80 cyclists pedaled more than 120 miles from Washington, D.C. to Bethany Beach, Del. raising awareness and $100,000 for Autism Speaks. Following the race, participants enjoyed a reception, in collaboration with the Lower Delaware Autism Foundation (LDAF), which combined autism awareness and festivities. Kansas City Wizards Host Soccer Clinic for Kids with Autism
|
|
|
On July 25, Kansas City Wizards captain Jimmy Conrad and his teammates hosted a soccer clinic for children with autism.
