Video Glossary & 100 Day Kit Among Offerings for Fall
This fall, Autism Speaks will unveil several new national initiatives and special events, including the launch of a free, online autism video glossary, partnerships with YouTube and TiVo, and the release of a 100 Day Kit for families with a member newly diagnosed with autism. Read more.
Autism Speaks Launches YouTube Channel
Autism Speaks has joined with YouTube to create AutismSpeaksVids, a dedicated channel to help promote autism awareness online. AutismSpeaksVids will host exclusive expert interviews, autism media coverage, ground-level fundraiser footage, advocacy efforts and more. The channel will draw from the submissions of the online community to bring a broad and varied look at autism and the individuals and families it affects. Fall Walks Continue to Attract Record Participation
Despite flash flood warnings and two inches of rain, over 300 walkers came out on September 8 to support the Southwest Missouri Walk Now for Autism, which to date, has raised $42,000. Read more about the walk here. Luckily, the rain held off in Washington two weeks earlier, when nearly 400 walkers raised more than $42,500 at the Tacoma Walk Now for Autism. LA Ride Now Biggest Yet, Raises More than $60,000
On Sunday, September 9, 425 riders turned out for the Third Annual Los Angeles ING DIRECT Ride Now and participated in the most successful Ride Now Los Angeles event to date. The celebration of motorcycles, chrome, and music raised more than $60,000 for Autism Speaks. Read more and watch video of the event here.
Genetically Altered Mice Provide Model for Autism
A team of researchers at the University of Texas' Southwestern Medical Center has genetically engineered mice with a genetic mutation that has been found in some people with autism. These mice may offer researchers a new means for studying how specific defects in brain development might lead to autism. Read more.
NJ Governor Signs Bill Package for Autism Services
This week, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine signed several bills that will increase autism support services in that state. Read more and watch video coverage .
