House Approves $8 Million for Autism Research
The "Fiscal Year 2008 Defense Appropriations Act" passed by the House of Representatives contains an eight million dollar targeted appropriation for the Autism Spectrum Disorders Research Program. The goal of this program, launched earlier this year, is to improve treatment and intervention for military families touched by autism spectrum disorders. This research would have the effect of benefiting all children with autism and their families. Read more .
Rochester Walk Kickoff Attracts New Families
The 5th Annual Rochester Kickoff Luncheon took place on Friday, July 20th, and attracted both new and returning walkers. As a result, fundraising is well ahead of last year's pace! This year's Walk is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th at Monroe Community College. Read more and watch video here.
Autism Speaks Golf Classic Raises $10,000
The Autism Speaks Golf Classic, presented by Motorola, took place on August 6th at the Commonwealth Golf Club in Horsham, PA, raising over $10,000. More than sixty participants enjoyed a day of golf, followed by dinner, cocktails, and an exciting sports memorabilia auction. Read more and watch video.
Beauty Queens Promote Autism Awareness
When given the opportunity to raise awareness about a valuable issue, many pageant winners, including the recently crowned Miss Pennsylvania 2007 and Autism Speaks Philadelphia Chapter member Rachel Brooks, are choosing autism as their platform. Pageant winners like Brooks, who have chosen autism awareness as their platform, have had to become well-versed on current events and issues relating to autism for pageant interviews. Read more.

Autism Speaks Featured Volunteer: Stacie McManus
Stacie McManus, co-president of the Chicago Chapter of Autism Speaks and chair of the past three Chicago fund raising walks, has been nominated as a Morton's Steak House "Woman of Spirit" for her work on behalf of Cure Autism Now and Autism Speaks. She will be honored at an event on August 13, 2007, at the Morton's in Schaumburg, IL. Read more.
