AGRE Hits a Milestone
Since 2001, over 100 peer-reviewed publications have used the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange (AGRE) marking a milestone in autism research, and laying the groundwork for discovering causes, treatments and a cure for autism. As the largest private collection of families with two or more children with autism, AGRE accelerates the pace of autism research by providing clinical assessments and biomaterials to qualified researchers. Our message is just now starting to appear on the “venti” hot cups, as the first cup was spotted today in Los Angeles! Autism Speaks Files Amicus Brief With U.S. Supreme Court
Autism Speaks, through its Federal Legal Appeals Project (FLAP), has filed an amicus brief before the United States Supreme Court in the Tom F. case. The brief focuses on the critical nature of early intervention for children with autism, and accordingly, explains why parents of children with autism should not be forced to “try out” demonstrably inappropriate and ineffective IEP programs during what may well be a relatively narrow window of opportunity. Autism Speaks Chosen as Charity Partner for ING NYC Marathon
Autism Speaks was chosen as one of 22 charity partners to participate in the 2007 ING NYC Marathon on Sunday, November 4. This is the second year that the ING NYC Marathon is working with local charities, and the first year that Autism Speaks has applied for entry positions. Read more .
Twisted Sister Presents Check to Autism Speaks
Members of the rock group Twisted Sister, presented a check for more than $17,000 to Autism Speaks, at the VH1 headquarters in New York City. The check represents proceeds from a collaborative effort with Razor and Tie, VH1 Classic, and Cure Autism Now. Read more and watch video.
Vote Now for a "Cure for Autism"
"A Cure for Autism" is one of the top 25 semifinalists in American Express's Members Project competition. Autism Speaks is the "Fulfilling Organization" for the project, which was submitted by the mother of nine-year-old twin boys with autism. In order to advance to the next round, we need enough votes to land in the top 5. If this project wins, Autism Speaks can receive up to $5 million from American Express. Voting for this round ends at 11:50PM EST on Sunday, July 22. If you are an AMEX cardholder, please vote now for “A Cure for Autism.”
