Researchers Investigate Protein Mutations in Autism
A team of scientists at the University of California, San Diego, led by Cure Autism Now-funded researcher Davide Comoletti, Ph.D., discovered how particular genetic mutations may contribute to developmental abnormalities associated with autism. Sold-Out Screening of Autism Every Day at the Nantucket Film Festival
Autism Every Day, the documentary film produced by Autism Speaks and directed by Lauren Thierry, played to a sold-out crowd at the Nantucket Film Festival on June 14, 2007. Festival director Jill Burkhart, who first viewed Autism Every Day at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, proclaimed the film to be one of the most important works in the Nantucket Film Festival's program. Additionally, for the second year in a row, Autism Speaks' Ad Council public service announcements are being screened prior to all 50 films in the festival's line-up. Autism Speaks to Sponsor the International Congress for Autism Research in Mexico
Autism Speaks, in partnership with CLIMA, the Mexican Autism Clinic, A.C., presents “Autism Speaks to the World”, the International Congress for Autism Research. The conference, which takes place July 5-7, will be simulcast live in English and Spanish on the web. It will bring together scientists, clinicians and practitioners to raise autism awareness, encourage research, and promote education for parents, legislators, and other professionals around the world. June Walk Weekend Continues Fundraising Success
Walk Now For Autism hosted seven walks over the June 9-10 weekend, from San Francisco to New Jersey. Although the donations are still being tallied, June is following the success of a Spring season which raised over $8.5 million for Autism Speaks. TJ Maxx Campaign Raises Over $1 Million
TJ Maxx, as part of Autism Awareness Month, ran its fourth consecutive annual point of sale campaign to raise autism awareness and funds to benefit Autism Speaks. The one-month campaign raised more than $1 million dollars through generous customer donations, a record for the discount retail chain, and a testament to the commitment of its staff and customer base to support autism awareness, research, advocacy and family services. Autism Speaks Raises Awareness with an Online Health Fair Booth
Autism Speaks has taken up a virtual booth at Revolution Health's first-ever Online Health Fair. We're joining dozens of nonprofit health groups to share resource information and promote autism awareness online. While admission to the Health Fair is free, Revolution Health will be making a 25 cent donation to us for each visitor each day between June 15-30.
