House Of Commons Welcomes Autism Speaks UK
Autism Speaks UK held its second annual reception at the House of Commons on the British House of Parliament. Dame Stephanie Shirley, founder of Autism Speaks UK, addressed a gathering of scientists, doctors, parents and members of Parliament, in a speech emphasizing recent accomplishments and challenges for the coming year. Ask Senators and Representative to Cosponsor EPIAA
You can help make The Expanding the Promise for Individuals with Autism Act (EPIAA) law. Senate bill S. 937 and House bill HR 1881 will provide $350 million in new federal funding for services for individuals with autism. Dept. of Defense Funding Autism Research
The Autism Spectrum Disorder Research Program, or ASDRP, is offering $7.5 million in grants for researchers to study autism spectrum disorders. The ASDRP was created by Congress when it appropriated the monies for autism research in the Fiscal 2007 Department of Defense Appropriations Act. The program was presented to Congress by Autism Speaks, and Peter Bell, executive vice president of Autism Speaks, chairs the integration panel that is responsible for designing the objectives of the ASDRP Learn more.
Autism Speaks Applauds Chicago PD Training Video
The Chicago Police Department has created a new training video designed to help officers gain a better understanding of the behaviors associated with autism, and to respond appropriately when they encounter a person with autism. Autism Speaks served as a consultant to the department in the production of the video, which will be made available to police departments in surrounding communities through a shared training website.
