Using Peer Modeling to Develop Vocational Skills for Young Adults on the Autism Spectrum
Defiance College will be addressing the lack of authentic work experiences for young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder through the creation of a portable model of vocational training. Prior to the start of the vocational skills program, the Hench Autism Studies Program will complete four critical planning elements: (1) identification of jobs (2) task analysis (3) creation of curriculum (4) job coach training. the Director of the Hench Program will work with various departments on campus to identify jobs available for the students in the on-campus classroom. the jobs will be found in a variety of departments on campus such as the library, food services, athletics and facilities.
