Project ACT Autism Inclusion Project
Abilities Network’s Project All Children Together (ACT) provides one-on-one consultative and supportive services to children birth though age 12 who are attending child care or out-of-school-time programs and are being evaluated for, or have a diagnosis of, Autism Spectrum Disorder. Services are provided in the greater Baltimore area. Project ACT is based on the principle that all people have the right to be included in their community, which, for children, often includes early childhood care, before and after school care, and summer camp programming. Children with autism present a challenge to the staff in these programs due to the intensity of their needs and the lack of knowledge and training on the part of the providers. Children with autism are at high risk of expulsion from these programs and the consequences are often devastating. Project ACT will address these problems by helping caregivers and professional staff members understand and implement inclusive practices in their classrooms and learning environments.
