Parent To Parent For Autism
Paso Del Norte Children's Development Center
The PdNCDC will implement a pilot project to better prepare parents of children newly diagnosed with ASD to better advocate for and act on behalf of their child with a focused emphasis on parents of historically underserved populations. The project will marshal and deploy many of the already in place and operational amenities of the PdNCDC and its community partners with an added "one-on-one mentoring" support provider mechanism. The staff of the PdNCDC will recruit and train 10 experienced parents of children with ASD to serve as volunteers to mentor parents of children newly diagnosed with ASD. Subjects will be related to securing therapies and services in medical, developmental and education settings leading to more positive and long-lasting therapeutic outcomes.
