Children and teens with autism often do not receive the kind of social skills support they need. to address this issue, the applicant, a provider of services to individuals with autism and their families in the Detroit area, will bring social skills intervention and staff training to ten local schools (elementary, middle and high schools) for one year. the intervention, a "Peer Assisted Lunch Social," will use the research-based model of "integrated play groups" to integrate students with autism with their typically developing peers. School staff members will be trained in this method by the applicant, so that they will be able to continue the intervention without assistance by the end of the year.
