The Autism Project is proposing to develop and implement a structured ASD training program for paraprofessionals working in human services. There are currently no opportunities for these paraprofessionals to get an organized and comprehensive training program in best practices in autism spectrum disorders that is specific to their range of responsibilities. The training program will be organized into 20 three hour sessions that can be offered in two segments and cover principles of structured teaching, communication, positive behavior supports, sensory integration, cognitive processing, and relationship development. It will be taught by Master’s level professionals in special education, speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, and behavior supports.
