ASD And Me: Teaching Children With ASD, And Those Who Care For Them, To Understand The ASD Diagnosis
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC
This program will address the lack of understanding regarding diagnosis among children with ASD; as well as provide parents and professionals with the language to talk with children about their diagnoses as the children grow and mature. Children with ASD, ages 11-13 years (or grades 6-8), will come together in small groups to learn about their diagnosis in a series of six sessions. At the same time, parents will meet to discuss their own understanding of the ASD diagnosis, receive information regarding the children’s curriculum, and learn ways to carry over the above activities in the home. This program will specifically target low-income families in the Pittsburgh, PA area.
