Nantucket Autism Speaks Resource Center

Kim Horyn, Director
Nantucket Autism Speaks Resource Center

Kim Horyn, a 25-year resident of Nantucket, is originally from Struthers, Ohio. She graduated with a BS degree in Education from Youngstown State University and taught high school English in Ohio and Houston, Texas, before relocating to Nantucket. Horyn has since worked in consulting, advertising and public relations, and prior to joining Autism Speaks in November 2007, she served as Community Relations Coordinator for Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Horyn has been involved in special needs and education on Nantucket as a volunteer for the past 17 years. She has served as a member and chair of the Special Needs Advisory Council, an organization of families, teachers and community members, supporting and promoting quality education for students with diverse learning needs and challenges. Horyn has also served as president of the Friends of Nantucket Public Schools, the island's parent-teacher organization, and as Chair of the Nantucket School Committee.

Horyn and her husband, Robert, a contractor, have three children, Rachel, 21, a student at Crotched Mountain School, which provides educational services to students with developmental disabilities; Katherine, 17, a junior; and Will, 15, a freshman, both at NHS.
