In recognition of this event and Autism Awareness Month, we are showcasing the writing of talented individuals on the autism spectrum on our website. Please send your short stories, poetry, and song lyrics to editors@autismspeaks.org for consideration. Autism Speaks reserves the right to edit contributions for space, style and content. Due to the volume of submissions expected, we may not be able to publish them all.

Nature Poem

Roaring white waves, glistening in the sun
Begging me to join them
"Come'", they say, "refresh in my cool mist"
"Relax in my warm waters"
"Lose yourself in my blue immersion"
"Come in, leave your problems on the sand".
So I come in
At that moment, all problems vanish, and the world is whole
Glorious water flowing on sand, drowning all the bad things in the world
Immersed in water, the world is a perfect place
The biggest dilemma in the world is whether or not to stay there forever
To have a perfect yet boring existence or go back into the unpredictable world
It is truly the very definition of a tough decision
The peace and quiet of the ocean versus the constant noise and chaos of the world
Eventually though, I must get out
I go home
But I must return, for the ocean is a lifeline
