And I swear I'm not being sarchastic {sp?}. We just got back from the Dr.'s and Nick has a strep infection of the anus. In all life I've never heard of anything even remotely like this. She said the rest of the rash appears as if he's got too much acid in his system, but I don't give him anything acidy to drink - he does not drink orange juice. And she gave me a sample of the Butt Paste until I can get some more plus the perscription for the strep infection - external cream.

Has anyone ever heard of strep in the area that Nick has it? I believe her and she did culture it - it just came as a huge shock when she told me what he has! :( Poor kid no wonder he cries! His face after I put the cream on was priceless - you just saw the sigh of relief!

BAHAHAHAHAHA I love it!! Poor Nick!!!

I read forums for celiac's disease also, to get recipes. And those gluten intolerant people over there talk about how they can tell when they've had a gluten reaction by the rash on their asses!

It's amazing how what you put in your mouth affects your ability to sit down, isn't it?

I heard a comedian talking about God once and he said, "He took the one place where all the nasty stuff comes out... He put it 'round back where ya can't reach it to clean it!"

Give Nick a hug for us... I hope he feels better soon.

Now, I am not a professional, and it sure will sound like it, but isn't there a Strep test that the doctors do a few weeks before a pregnant woman delivers her baby??? Could this be the same??? I am kind of curious to, consitering my son is crying of a belly ache all the time!?:(

Yes there is that "Strep B" test that they give you before you give birth....I heard it was rather innocuous (benign) unless you have a baby going through there. I wonder if that's what it is? Poor guy, I'm glad you took him, none of us would have ever guessed that. Pat on the back for you AND your doctor. Give the poor guy hugs for us.

Besides making me ROFLMAO :D {thanks I needed that!} your response reminded me of something. Just last week his daycare started with a new whole grain bread that he LOVED! And I gave him Canadian White toast with peanut butter on Sat or Sun - got my days mixed up. :o I wonder if that did it.

Time for the food log - and NO more whole grain breads for a while - like maybe forever!

Oh, poor Nick!

Was the sample you got from your Dr. Boudreaux's Butt Paste? That stuff is a miracle cure, I swear. As silly as the name is, it is the best thing I've found for any kind of diaper rash. :)

Yes that is what she gave me and I just ran to Target and grabbed a tube of it - he really likes it - first time in days he's not screamed at the sight of the changing table!! :D

I've never heard of it, either. But streptococcus is a fairly common germ that, in its various incarnations, can cause a number of diseases in humans and animals.

Science aside, I'm glad to learn that your doctor discovered the cause of the rash and that Nick is already feeling better. :)

"A somewhat unusual or unexpected strep infection is perianal disease. This presents as an intensely red rash around the anus, which is usually mistaken for a yeast infection (Candida). However, antifungal medications such as nystatin cream are useless. The rash disappears promptly with oral penicillin or erythromycin treatment. Intertrigo, infection of moist crease areas, is most often due to Candida albicans (yeast) infection. It may however be caused by Group A Streptococcus, as well. If your child has a persistent "yeast infection" in an armpit or groin crease that does not clear with antifungal treatment, it might be such a streptococcal infection."

Rest of the web page is here (http://www.drhull.com/EncyMaster/S/strep_infections.html).

NIAID says this:

Symptoms of cellulitis and erysipelas

"Symptoms of cellulitis may include fever and chills and swollen "glands" or lymph nodes. Your skin will be painful, red, and tender. Your skin may blister and then scab over. You may also have perianal (around the anus) cellulitis with itching and painful bowel movements"

Rest of that page here (http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/strep.htm).

Hope this helps. Our daughter had her share of bouts with strep too, although nothing like this from what I remember.

That Google PhD is pretty good, ain't it? ;)

I'm so glad Nick's butt feels better! I'm just sitting here trying to imagine what that much rash must have been like. Maybe you could concoct your own cream and market it as "Nick's better butt" :D

Hi all,
First off a huge get well soon!!!

Second, I have heard of this before...none of my kids have ever had it but there is a friend of my daughter (typical age 11) who has 2 younger brothers 7 and 5 who seem to always have it! I have to ask some off the wall questions before my daughter or if my daughters is going over there to play! I am not exactly sure but I think maybe the younger kids can actually get that when others in the house have the throat version because it seems to have its run through there house all at the same time at different levels!

Debbie,
I have never heard of that! Once, I personally, had cream for the area
following a yeast infection. Regardless, that one website looks like a good one to read. I agree it was probably something he ate. Do you have him on the GF/CF diet yet? It might be time to think about it. It very well could be the food they served at preschool. Poor little man!
Fondly,
Kirsten
