It was one of the most beautiful days of the fall season. The ninth annual North/Central NJ Walk took place on Sunday, October 21 at Nomahegan Park in Cranford, NJ. 5000 walkers, including over 100 new teams raised over $300,000.
Families enjoyed the Home Depot Workshop, moon-bounces, crafts, a reptile show, face painting, music by David Pellot of Soundbar Entertainment and activities provided by 13 different autism resource fair vendors. With maps in hand, new team captains participated in a New Team Scavenger Hunt to learn more about Autism Speaks and then to win an additional Walk day t-shirt. Music Therapist, Jammin’ Jen performed at each of the Team Village Tents where Top Teams with goals of raising $5000 or more gathered in style.
Opening ceremonies were led by Walk Co-Chairs MaryKate Lesnevich and Jennifer Love. The audience chanted ‘1 in 88 Can’t Wait’ as Community Advocacy Chair Paul Cash gave one final push to encourage people to sign up for Autism Votes. Then the 2-mile Walk started at 1. Over 200 teams walked for an hour across the start line, and as the last team started, the first team appeared at the finish line. This year, there were more walkers than ever before.

Last but not least, thanks to Co-Chairs MaryKate Lesnevich and Jennifer Love, and the Walk Planning Committee, for another amazing day. Thank you for bringing your heart and soul with everything that we carry in and out of the park that day! As always, it was a great success!
