Marchons pour Autism Speaks!
Over 1,500 participants came out for the Inaugural Montreal Walk Now for Autism Speaks on June 19 at Stade Uniprix.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of all Walk Teams, we are just shy of our $200,000 event goal at $185,548! Montreal-based Team JJ fueled by top fund-raiser Jay Kastner lead family teams across Canada at $23,286.
Mega-Man and Geoffrey from TRU along with members of the 501 Legion were a huge hit with walkers – young and old. Presenting sponsor Mega Brands teamed with Title Walk Sponsor Toys'R'Us and Babies'R'Us and provided an incredible array of fun and games for families and kids of all ages. 31-year old Warren Lumsden courageously sang Oh Canada! as Vic Betrand, Chief Innovation Officer for Mega Brands presented a cheque for $50,820 to Autism Speaks Canada. He noted that in 26 years, he had never seen the staff of Mega rally around a cause and an event like this ever before. The passion and spirit of Team Toys led by Rosie Cerrone will be difficult to match at other Walk events in Canada. In a cloud of bubbles and cotton candy, they heartily led the cheering section for all walkers and paid special tribute to Canadians from coast to coast who helped make the TRU/BRU Campaign a resounding success in 2011 raising $710,000 during the 2 month campaign in March and April.
Special Father’s Day messages were delivered by event MC Nick Murdocco of Team 990, as well as volunteers Nick Katalifos and Tony Flanz who each spoke of their pride of their children and in particular the support of the siblings of Manoli and Matthew – who live with autism every day. Sincerest thanks to Volunteer Walk Chair, Melissa Vitulano and all event sponsors and supporters including Stade Uniprix, Puresource and Team 990. And last but certainly not least, thanks to Deejay Sherman of CombatPix.com.
