Career Day at The Gap: Job Training for People with Autism

Earlier this week our friends at Gap in NYC hosted a career day to give four young people with autism some real world experience to help them develop their workplace skills.

Gap partnered with Autism Speaks and HeartShare to give Reuben, Kenneth, Mathew and Sean (pictured) some on-the-job training, and a glimpse into the working world.  The four young men spent the day at GAP’s flagship 5th avenue store -- each was paired with a Gap employee and assigned to one of four stations:

Join Us for a Technology and Autism Webinar Series

Join us for Autism Speaks new Technology and Autism Webinar Series. Each webinar will offer a technology topic presented by experts that is targeted toward a family–friendly audience. The 2012 series runs from October through December, and will begin again in January 2013. Each webinar will allow time for questions and answers sessions. Webinars will be recorded and available for later viewing. The series is free and open to all.

The Ballad of SenseAbility Gym

Alysia lives in Hopedale, MA with her husband and three sons. She is active in the special needs community through her volunteer work, specifically as the managing editor of the SPD Blogger Network, a website designed to connect parents of children with sensory processing disorder and through her own personal blog Try Defying Gravity. She is also a member of her local special education parents advisory council. Her middle child was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at age 3 1/2.
