Candy Waters Autism Art Inspires The World!
This Heart of Autism blog post is written by Robert and Sandy Waters, parents of Candy Waters, a talented 12-year-old painter who inspires the autism community in so many ways! Half of the proceeds from the sales of Candy’s beautiful paintings go to helping others with autism fulfill their dreams of becoming artists.
Our beautiful redheaded daughter Candace, aka Candy, is 12 years old and has severe autism. Candy is nonverbal but she is an amazing painter! Even though Candy is unable to communicate through words and has trouble interacting with others, she is able to express herself through her paintings. Candy's art has inspired people and raised autism awareness around the world! Most importantly, her paintings give people hope. We feel Candy is giving all of us a unique little glimpse into her world. Her paintings allow us to see what she sees and feel what she feels. As you can see by her beautiful paintings, it must be a bright happy world!
Candy has been painting since she was 6 years old when a teacher sent her home with some materials and asked us if she could paint. We didn’t think she could but she did, and sure enough, one of her first paintings sold for $100 in a local gallery. Candace has a very unique colorful and happy style of painting that is all her own. She seems to know how colors blend together perfectly. When she paints she becomes very happy and laughs which is priceless. We are so proud that Candace is able to express herself through her art. Several of Candy’s prints now (we keep the originals for sentimental reasons!) have sold for between $500 and $800. Some of her work currently hangs in Park Ridge City Hall, state Senator Dan Kotowski's Chicago office and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky's Chicago office.
Prints of Candy's paintings are being sold through the Kind Tree-Autism Rocks Foundation and We Are Lions. Half of all proceeds from the sales of Candy's prints are going to help others on the autism spectrum fulfill their dreams of becoming artists.
The University of California, Irvine Magazine is using Candy's "Mr. Sun" painting for the cover of their summer issue that sheds light on the university’s efforts to help those affected by autism. Numerous featured articles have been done on Candy's Art most notably in the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. Candy was also recently featured on the Geek Club Books site!
Candy has inspired us to create an Autism Awareness Radio Show, "The Candy Store," on Blog Talk Radio. Our mission is to increase autism awareness and compassion for those with autism and to empower other parents with knowledge. We reach out to other parents who have a child with autism to let them know that they are not alone and to never give up Faith, Love & Hope. We also wrote a song for Candy titled "Faith, Love & Hope". Our song has received National Attention!!
We invite everyone to come over and like "Candy Waters Autism Artist" Page on Facebook.
Faith, Love & Hope,
Robert & Sandy Waters (Candy's Mom & Dad)
