Meet the Autism Speaks U Summer Interns!

This summer, we have three stellar interns working with our college program, Autism Speaks U. They are gaining hands on experience in digital and print marketing, design, social media marketing, branding and volunteer development. Not to mention they offer great feedback and ideas on how to develop Autism Speaks U even more! Read below to learn more about our intern team.

Name: Shannon Dwyer

School: Emerson College

Major: Journalism

Graduation Year: 2015

What clubs/organizations are you involved with on campus?

Her Campus Emerson, WEBN-TV News, Emerson Independent Video, Your Mag, and Emerson Fashion Society.

If you could meet any celebrity who would it be and why?

I would LOVE to meet either Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe. Both women are strong role models and so glamorous!

What was the most interesting trip you have ever taken?

A couple years ago I went on a cruise around the Caribbean. I got to explore many islands and learn the native culture- it was a blast!

If you could get any monument/building lit up blue on April 2 for World  Autism Awareness Day what would it be?

I would love to see the Golden Gate Bridge lit up!

What are your 3 favorite social media platforms?

Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

What’s your role as an Autism Speaks U intern?

I am a Social Media/Marketing Intern.

Why did you choose to intern with Autism Speaks U?

I wanted to become more involved with Autism Speaks, as well as get experience working in social media marketing.

What are your plans post-graduation?

I want to be a broadcast news reporter, so I hope to move to NYC and get a job at a TV station!

 

Name: Tyisha Wrice

School: Wayne State College

Major: I’m a double major in English Writing and Graphic Design, with a minor in Editing and Publishing.

Graduation Year: 2012

What clubs/organizations are you involved with on campus?

Sigma Tau Delta, an English Honor Society, Women’s Rugby, Science Fiction and Fantasy Club, and W.R.I.T.E.S., a writing club.

If you could meet any celebrity who would it be and why?

Morgan Freeman. 

What was the most interesting trip you have ever taken?

I went to Las Vegas, Nevada for spring break one year with seven of my friends. It was a very spur of the moment decision, and we all ended up driving in mini-van (a 23 hour drive from Nebraska). The Colorado Mountains are absolutely beautiful to drive through.

If you could get any monument/building lit up blue on April 2 for World  Autism Awareness Day what would it be?

The Las Vegas Strip would be awesome to see lit up blue.

What are your 3 favorite social media platforms?

YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest.

What’s your role as an Autism Speaks U intern? 

I am the Design Intern. 

Why did you chose to intern with Autism Speaks U?

I thought it would be a great opportunity to test my designing skills using an established brand and to see what working with a non-profit organization would be like.

What are your plans post-graduation?

I am going to continue my education in the fall to pursue my Master's degree.

School: University of Maryland

Major: Communications

Graduation Year: 2013

What clubs/organizations are you involved with on campus?

NHLSSA, intramural soccer and Alpha Phi National Sorority.

If you could meet any celebrity who would it be and why?

Barbara Walters, she has met so many interesting people and seen so much that she would be extremely interesting to talk to.

What was the most interesting trip you have ever taken?

My birthright trip to Israel.

If you could get any monument/building lit up blue on April 2 for World  Autism Awareness Day what would it be?

The Eiffel Tower.

What are your 3 favorite social media platforms?

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

What’s your role as an Autism Speaks U intern?

I am a Social Media/Marketing Intern.

Why did you choose to intern with Autism Speaks U?

I always wanted to be able to make a difference and do something where I helped others and this internship allowed me to do that.

What are your plans post-graduation?

I would like to work for a non-profit, and help as many people as possible.
