SACRAMENTO (June 18 , 2013) -- The California Legislature and Governor Brown were unable to reach a funding agreement to continue autism therapies for 900,000 children who transitioned out of the Healthy Families Program earlier this year into Medi-Cal. Autism Speaks will work until every person with autism has appropriate access to necessary medical therapies, regardless of how they access that care.
The Brown administration had assured legislators that the transfers would not take place unless children were assured of receiving "adequate care" through Medi-Cal. Instead, families were told they were losing access to ABA with as little as one week's notice.
