ATLANTA (January 25, 2014) -- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution today published an opinion piece by Sen. John Albers, the Senate sponsor of Ava's Law, calling for enactment of autism insurance reform legislation this year in Georgia.
Albers commended Gov. Nathan Deal for including autism insurance coverage for state employees and teachers in his budget proposal submitted to the Legislature. "I applaud his decision and hope his leadership inspires my colleagues in the Legislature to pass Ava’s Law," Albers wrote in the OpEd.
Albers cited data showing that the addition of coverage for applied behavior analysis (ABA) and other therapies for the treatment of autism raises premiums on average by less than 32 cents a month. Yet the longterm benefits resulting from early intervention saves taxpayers millions of dollars in avoidable special education and support service costs, he noted.
